Dr. Earl Lanter - Laser Eye Surgeon Ophthalmologist

Earl E. Lanter OD, MD graduated from Indiana University with Distinction in 1977 and received a Doctor of Optometry degree with High Distinction in 1979. Dr. Lanter gained invaluable clinical experience as an optometrist for a year and then pursued his Doctor of Medicine degree, graduating with Highest Distinction in 1984. Upon completion of his specialty training, he started his private practice in Indianapolis in 1988. In 1992, Dr. Earl Lanter was one of the first doctors in the United States to perform Instant Vision cataract surgery without shots, stitches or patches. This procedure allowed many to see at a distance almost immediately without glasses or contacts. These remarkable results spurred Dr. Lanter’s interest in refractive surgery, which would allow him to provide thousands with great vision. Dr. Earl Lanter trained with the leading experts in refractive surgery, traveling the world to bring home the latest in technology and surgical procedures.

In 1996, Dr. Lanter performed the first hospital based LASIK surgery in Indianapolis, ushering in a new era of eye care. Since then, Lanter EyeCare has incorporated the latest in laser technology using the VISX Star S4™ Laser with CustomVue™ and ActiveTrak™. With the advent of tracking devices, custom treatment technologies, and improved antibiotic eye drops, LASIK has become even safer and more precise.
