Earl E. Lanter MD, OD, FACS graduated "With Distinction" from Indiana University in 1977 and received a Doctor of Optometry degree "With High Distinction" in 1979. After gaining a year's experience as an Optometrist, Dr. Lanter was enrolled in the Indiana University School of Medicine, where in 1984 he received a Doctor of Medicine degree, "With Highest Distinction".
Upon completion of his specialty training in Ophthalmology in 1988, Dr. Lanter started private practice in Indianapolis. He was an early clinical investigator of foldable intraocular lenses, and in 1992, Dr. Lanter was among the first eye surgeons in the United States performing Clear Corneal Cataract surgery using topical anesthesia, eliminating shots, stitches, and patches. Many patients were able to see at a distance almost immediately without glasses or contacts. Dr. Lanter pursued his interest in vision correction and refractive surgery, training with the leading experts. He has traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and as far as China to learn of the latest in technology and surgical procedures, enabling him to provide thousands with great vision without glasses or contacts.
In 1996, Dr. Lanter performed the first LASIK surgery in Indianapolis, at a hospital owned surgery center, ushering in a new era of eye care and vision correction surgery. Today, Lanter EyeCare owns, operates and maintains in its dedicated LASIK center, the best Intralase LASIK and PRK technology. Patients receive customized treatments and personalized care starting with a private consultation with Dr Lanter which includes WaveScan analysis, Pentacam imaging and topography.
